Natural Capitalism Solutions is partnering with the Club of Rome and Planetary Emergency Partners to advocate for solutions to the coronavirus that enable a low-carbon, resilient, equitable future, instead of responses that further entrench existing unsustainable systems.
An article Hunter co-authored for Project Syndicate is now the basis for a global petition calling for the coronavirus to be a moment of positive transformation. The article also inspired a letter published in the Financial Times from Costa Rica’s Minister of the Environment in support of these ideas. As the petition states:
“How leaders decide to stimulate the economy in response to the corona crisis will either amplify global threats or mitigate them, so they need to choose wisely. The risk is making nearsighted decisions that increase emissions and continue to degrade nature in the long term. On the other hand, there is an opportunity to champion solutions that not only rebuild lives and spur economic activity in the immediate wake of the crisis, but also accelerate the transition to resilient, low-carbon economies and nature-rich societies.”
