Linda Bilsens (January-July)
Linda Bilsens is a senior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign majoring in Natural Resources and Environmental Studies with a Human Dimensions focus. Her passion in finding her sustainable place in the world, while helping others find theirs’. She began her university career fearing any economics course, but now sees it as an important tool for attaining global sustainability. Linda has had the amazing opportunity to study abroad in both, Bilbao, Spain and Cape Town, South Africa. Her time abroad changed her life and her perspective of the world, having taught her the importance of community strength—whether it is on the other side of the globe or in your own backyard. Linda looks forward to her time at Natural Capitalism as the bridge between a world of theory and a world of action.
Alex Green (January-July)
Alex was born and raised in Boulder, Colorado where he will graduate from University of Colorado at Boulder in December with majors in Environmental Studies and minors in Business and Geography. His specialty is in Environmental Policy and Business. His interest in Natural Capitalism was sparked after doing a research project of the company and the ideas of sustainability that the stand for. He is excited to be working with Natural Capitalism Solutions this summer on a variety of projects. In his free time he enjoys skiing, biking, climbing, spending time with his family and friends and enjoying life in Boulder.
Nick Gruber (January-July)
Nick is a life-long advocate for wildlife and environmental protection, an enthusiast of outdoor recreation, and a driven entrepreneur fueled by passion for a better world. He graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2006 with a B.A. in Environmental Studies. His interest in the cultures of the world has taken him far and wide to many beautiful places, but at the end of the day, he and his wife consider Colorado home!
Justin Kushik (January-July):
Justin received his degree from the University of Colorado in Environmental Studies in 2004. Engaged as a firefighter for the forest service, Justin arrived fresh from the trenches to the NCS summer internship program. In the office he applied the same focus to several projects, where his interest in business sustainability gained real-world experience. Travel in a study abroad program to West Africa and a trip to Europe fired Justin’s appreciation of a more sustainable global outlook. Outdoor passions include mountain biking, hiking, and golfing.
Stephen Mannhard (January-2008)
Stephen is from St. Louis and graduated from the University of Dayton in Ohio with a degree in Geology and Business. His passion for sustainability developed through numerous outdoor activities, including climbing, cycling, camping, etc. His formal education in the natural sciences, also, played a large role in fostering my appreciation for the intricacy and beauty of natural systems. He is interested creating environmental change through economic incentives driven by sustainable practices in the business model. In his free time, he enjoys reading, art, music, and going on adventures. Steve became staff in 2009.
Kendall Olson (January-July)
Kendall is a native of Wayzata, MN and a recent graduate of University of Colorado at Boulder with a degree in Environmental Studies. Her passion for sustainability was triggered during two courses in the Business School at the University of Colorado: Strategies in Sustainable Tourism and Sustainability: Business and the Environment. Her love of the outdoors has sparked a true interest in helping to reverse the damage we have already done. In her free time, Kendall enjoys hiking, biking, camping, hearing live music, spending time with her family, and cooking.
Nick Sterling (October-2008)
Nick is originally from Truckee, CA, and received degrees in Environmental Studies and Physical Geography from the University of Colorado-Boulder (CU) in 2006, where he also won a national championship with the CU-Ski team. Nick’s interest in sustainability and using business as a means to drive change, came from hearing a presentation by Hunter at CU during his undergrad. Since then he as worked for a river/ wetland restoration firm and an economic research and consulting firm. For the year prior to coming to NCS, Nick nordic skied professionally for Salomon and worked with Pacific Outdoor Equipment an outdoor company as a sustainability advisor. In his free time he enjoys skiing in form, running, biking, kayaking and climbing.
