NCS Housed Accounts Spotlight: Chain Reaction

NCS’ Meghan Altman and her partner, Zach Borngraver, created Chain Reaction, an exciting project of Natural Capitalism Solutions to benefit our local community. Chain Reaction empowers young people, one bicycle at a time, promoting healthy and active lifestyles, environmental stewardship, youth development, and sustainability.

Zach, a skilled mechanic and service manager with 15 years’ experience, is extremely passionate about the world of cycling. He looks forward to providing Longmont a first-class service shop, whose larger mission and work focuses on the local community. Zach and Meghan realized how fortunate they were to be introduced to the cycling world at such a young age and how beneficial it was to them in many aspects of their lives. Cycling has provided them with an enjoyable means to maintain health and wellbeing, a new way in which to enjoy and explore the natural world, and the chance to become part of a welcoming and supportive community. They did not want to see children missing out on these opportunities due to income, status, or ability. Zach and Meghan seek to engage the youth of Boulder County to become environmental stewards and active members of their community, but they need your help.

Chain Reaction delivers four program areas: Earn-a-Bike, Learn-to-Ride, Bike Safety 101, and a Youth Bike Club. They will host ongoing community rides and races, offer volunteer opportunities, and internships for high school students to gain workplace skills in a fun, professional environment.

Chain Reaction will partner with organizations like the Boys and Girls Club, Foothills United Way, YMCA, local schools and like-minded organizations to offer after school programs for youth in Boulder County. Through the Earn-A-Bike program, students will learn basic maintenance of bicycles and upon completion, these students will be awarded their own bicycle, helmet, and light, and become part of the Chain Reaction community. The Learn-to-Ride and Bike Safety 101 courses will be offered to youth of all ages who want to learn to ride a bike properly and safely throughout Boulder County. For high school students, Chain Reaction will offer internships within its service shop where motivated individuals can gain the necessary skills to prepare them for their professional career. Offering community rides and events, Chain Reaction and Natural Capitalism Solutions will remain an integral part of the Boulder County community.

Consider supporting Chain Reaction today. During this start-up phase, Chain Reaction is seeking seed funding for general organizational support. This will include funding for: program development, marketing, acquiring space for the shop as well as required maintenance, community events, employee salaries, etc.. Chain Reaction will always accept in-kind donations in the form of: bikes, helmets, lights, bike tools/parts, website development, event needs, and assistance with opening the service shop. Help Natural Capitalism Solutions and Chain Reaction empower the youth of Boulder County today!
